Trainor, John | Economics

John Trainor began teaching Economics at Archimedean Upper Conservatory in August 2016.

Prior to teaching, he completed a 27½-year career at IBM Corporation, where he worked in the areas of sales, marketing, strategy, and finance.

After retiring from IBM, he chose not to fully step away from work and instead spent several years as his family’s homemaker, preparing meals, chauffeuring his three sons, and helping them navigate middle and high school.

As an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, he studied Economics while majoring in Psychology.

His interest in economics deepened during his studies at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, now known as Chicago Booth.

There, he earned an MBA with concentrations in Finance, Economics, and International Business.

During his time at Chicago Booth, he studied under and was inspired by many distinguished economists, including eight recipients of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

He enjoys economics for its puzzling and often counterintuitive insights, as well as for its practical value in helping explain everyday life.
