Dr. Panneerselvam, Kalaiselvi | Chemistry, Science Olympiad

Dr. Kalaiselvi Panneerselvam holds a Medical Degree (M.D.) from India and a Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Biology from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

As a physician, she was involved not only in the practice of medicine but also in educating people of all ages about hygiene, general health, and healthy eating habits.

As a graduate student, she taught Anatomy, Human Biology, Immunology, and Histology laboratories for three years at Florida International University.

After graduation, she worked for three years at the University of Miami as a Researcher in the Neuropathology Department, focusing primarily on tissue culture while also training others in various culture techniques and biochemical assays.

She joined Archimedean Academy in 2006 as a Science teacher, initially viewing it as a unique opportunity to teach science at her son’s school.

Given her research background and university-level teaching experience, she originally planned to remain at the school for only one year. However, she soon realized that joining Archimedean was one of the best decisions she had made.

She finds great fulfillment in teaching science to younger students and takes pride in the fact that, during her time teaching, the school achieved top performance in the FCAT Science exams for both Grade 5 and Grade 8 in Miami-Dade County.

In addition to FCAT preparation and teaching science across middle school grade levels, she also teaches laboratory courses for the AP Biology program.

Dr. Panneerselvam believes that, with the right encouragement, proper conditions, and strong guidance, young people have the potential to become anything they aspire to be.

Inspired by teachers in India who guided her toward success through discipline, strong work habits, and consistency, she strives to encourage Archimedean students in the same way.

She also believes that competition sparks student interest and enhances educational achievement.

Through competitions, she believes students with both interest and aptitude in specific subject areas can be identified and supported.

For this reason, she is actively involved in programs such as Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Science Fair, and History Bee.

Under her guidance, Archimedean science teams have represented the State of Florida at national competitions, including Science Bowl in Denver, Colorado and Science Olympiad at the University of Illinois Urbana.
