AMC Math Club in the MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition on February 6, 2021
The AMC Math club competed in the MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition on February 6, 2021. Two of our mathletes, Pranav Rai (7D) and Sailalitha Kodukula (8E), placed 13th and 6th, respectively, among 87 participants. They also qualified for the MATHCOUNTS Chapter Invitational Competition, which took place on February 25, 2021.
Sailalitha placed 3rd among the 27 participants, and qualified to represent AMC at the MATHCOUNTS State competition! The MATHCOUNTS State Competition will take place on March 25, 2021. If Sailalitha qualifies, she will represent AMC and the state of Florida in the MATHCOUNTS National Competition that will take place in Washington, D.C., on May 9 and 10, 2021.
The great news, however, does not end there! Sailalitha participated in the AMC 8 competition which took place on November 14, 2020, and she scored in the top 1% nationally, among more than 56,000 students from over 1,400 schools, qualifying for the highest distinction in this competition “the Distinguished Honor Roll”.
Sailalitha also competed in the AMC 10A and 10B competition that took place on February 4 and February 10, 2021, respectively. The AMC 10 and 12 competitions are the most prestigious school math competitions in the United States, and the first step in a (long) series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Each year, more than 40,000 students in the 10th grade and below (typically, high school students) from more than 1,500 schools from all over the world participate in the AMC 10A competition. Approximately 2.5% of the test takers will qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). For the second year in a row, Sailalitha, with a score of 108 points on the AMC 10A, qualified for the AIME!
The AMC Math club has delivered very strong results in the Perennial math competition, as well, with several of its mathletes being recognized in the competition’s 2020-2021 Hall of Fame, but also in the MathCON competition whose results (placement of participants and qualifiers) are still pending!
Congratulations to Sailalitha and her coach, Mr Leonidas Artopoulos for this historic achievement. We wish them best of luck at the upcoming MATHCOUNTS state competitions on March 25th 2021.
